Jordanian fashion designer Nancy Najeeb Ammar launched an initiative titled “Color Your Life” to support women of all age groups by teaching them sewing skills to help increase their income. The initiative also aims to highlight their contributions to society and showcase the creativity behind their locally made products, which deserve recognition and promotion.
According to Nancy, the idea for the initiative came from a strong sense of social responsibility and her desire to find accessible ways to empower women and encourage their active participation in different areas of life.
In a statement to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the founder explained that the initiative specifically aims to employ and train women in clothing design and fabric painting, helping them earn a living—especially during times when job opportunities have decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nancy stated that her project, named with an optimistic message for a better future—“Color Your Life”—began in 2018 and has continued despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic. She also encouraged anyone with an entrepreneurial idea or initiative to work toward bringing it to life, developing it, and becoming a positive force in their community and surroundings.
One of the beneficiaries of the initiative, Jordanian trainee Rula Fadilat, shared that “Color Your Life” had a profound impact on her. It helped her become more productive and active in society, especially after overcoming her fears. She even began receiving online orders, which gave her extra motivation. Fadilat urged all women to learn a craft that benefits not only themselves but also their communities—rather than relying on others or remaining unproductive, which increases their vulnerability to marginalization and limits their social and economic participation.
